Operational Hints and Applications
Here are some hints for operating your vapor
system in both residential
and commercial
settings, along with some common uses. We hope this is helpful. If
you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact

USES
Floors
Vinyl Tile and Vinyl Sheets
- Volume: Low to medium
- Tools: Large brush & towel, extension tubes, nozzle with nylon
brush, small rectangular brush
- Hints & Techniques: Sweep or vacuum first; mop with large brush,
corners and baseboards with nozzle brush or large nozzle brush; do by
section using continuous motion. For heavily soiled areas use small
rectangular brush and no towel; wipe clean.
Quarry
Tile, Slate, Ceramic Tile and Grout
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Large brush & towel on front clips only, nozzle brush,
rectangular brush with towel.
- Hints & Techniques: Sweep or vacuum first, mop with large brush,
flip towel under brush to finish wipe, use nozzle brush on grout lines and
wipe away loosened dirt.
Hardwood
- Volume: Low
- Tools: Large brush & towel, extension tubes
- Hints & Techniques: Fix towel to large brush, heat with steam
"on", reduce or turn off steam and mop floor, repeat as towel
cools. Towel should be hot and moist, not wet. Do not dwell on
any one area too long.
Smooth Concrete
- Volume: Medium to High
- Tools: Large brush with towel on front clips only, small rectangular
brush
- Hints & Techniques: Sweep or vacuum first, mop with large brush,
flip towel under to finish wipe, use nozzle brush or small rectangular brush
for heavily soiled areas.
Wax Removal
- Volume: Medium to High
- Tools: Small rectangular brush and extension tubes
- Hints & Techniques: Treat by section with small rectangular
brush, no towel. Wipe clean with towel. Do twice. DO NOT
OVERHEAT!
Carpets
Wall to Wall Maintenance & Area Rugs
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Large brush and towel, extension tubes
- Hints & Techniques: Vacuum and then pre-steam with small
rectangular brush or large brush a 6ft. by 6 ft. area at 6" above the
surface. Attach towel to large brush and wipe in two directions - the
second at right angles to the first. Stubborn areas may be pre-treated
with a light application of gentle detergent, if desired, followed by steam
treatment. Always test an inconspicuous area first.
Spot Cleaning
- Volume: Medium to High
- Tools: Nozzle or Steam Gun
- Hints & Techniques: When using nozzle or steam gun on spots,
stay 4 to 6 inches away from carpet surface. Blot spot with towel,
repeat as necessary. DO NOT OVERHEAT!
Walls &
Ceilings
Painted, Paneling, Wallpaper
- Volume: Low
- Tools: Small rectangular brush or large brush with towel, extension
tubes.
- Hints & Techniques: Painted walls, paneling and wallpaper are
all heat sensitive. Always use 2 or preferably 3 layers of towel on
these surfaces. Do not dwell on any one area too long - treat
once. Let cool completely before treating again. On heavily
soiled areas, pre-steam with nozzle 6 inches away from surface and then
brush with towel. A mild cleaner may be applied if desired. On
wood paneling move quickly, check towel for signs of color transfer.
WALL PAPER REMOVAL - use nozzle on seams, wallpaper stripper on large
areas. Use small rectangular brush with towel to remove residual
paste.
Acoustical Tile
- Volume: Low
- Tools: Small rectangular brush or large brush with towel
- Hints & Techniques: Fix towel to small rectangular brush, heat
with steam "on", reduce or turn off steam and wipe tile
clean. Towel should be hot and moist but not wet.
Vents
- Volume: Medium to High
- Tools: Nozzle or extended nozzle, extension tubes, large brush with
towel.
- Hints & Techniques: Wipe vent surface with large brush with
towel. Pre- treat with extended nozzle if necessary. For
louvered vents, use nozzle with brush and towel, both sides of vent if
necessary.
Upholstery
Vinyl, Synthetics, Cotton, Leathers
- Volume: Low to Medium (use low on leather)
- Tools: Small rectangular brush with towel
- Hints & Techniques: Test in inconspicuous area first. Some
velours are very heat sensitive and may deform. Pre-steam area with
steam gun at 6 inches from surface. Using triangle brush with towel go
over surface working in two directions. Towel should be hot &
moist, not wet. Use nozzle on seam lines at 2 inches from surface,
wipe away dirt with towel. Condition leathers after treating.
Blinds
Levolor, Venetian type, horizontal, vertical
- Volume: Low to Medium
- Tools: Nozzle, extension tube, extended nozzle, triangle brush with
towel, large brush with towel.
- Hints & Techniques: For Light Dust - open blind 1/2 way and use
nozzle on medium to high 4 inches from surface, wipe clean with towel.
CAUTION: Thin plastic blinds may be deformed by too much heat.
USE CARE. Heavy or greasy dust - shut blind, mist with mild cleaner if
desired, use nozzle at 4 inches away from surface, wipe immediately with
towel. Vertical vinyl - triangle brush with towel on one side and
large brush with towel on opposite side top to base, switch sides.
Glass
Windows, Mirrors, Window Screens
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Window cleaning tool, small rectangular brush with towel,
extension tubes.
- Hints & Techniques: Pre-steam glass with steam gun or nozzle 6
inches away from surface or use small rectangular brush with towel over the
entire surface for the first cleaning. Follow up with the window
tool. Wipe squeegee blade often. Avoid cracked mirrors or
windows. Use small rectangular brush with towel on screens. DO
NOT apply steam to very cold windows. Cracks could result. Use
common sense and caution.
Window Frames
- Volume: Low to Medium
- Tools: Nozzle with nozzle brush, extension tube, towel
- Hints & Techniques: Use nozzle and brush to renew frame area,
latches etc. Use towel over nozzle to finish and polish
Kitchens
Stove tops, Ovens
- Volume: Low to Medium
- Tools: Nozzle with nozzle brush, nylon or brass depending on
surface, tough kit, towel
- Hints & Techniques: Use large nozzle brush with stainless steel
pad for oven surfaces, oven racks, glass in door. Use small nylon or
brass brush for tight areas and corners. Use nylon brush with or
without towel on stove tops. Wipe clean with towel.
Small Appliances
- Volume: Low to Medium
- Tools: Large or small nozzle brush, small rectangular brush with
towel
- Hints & Techniques: Please unplug small electrical appliance
first to avoid the chance of electrical shock. For large areas use
small rectangular brush with towel or large nozzle brush directly. Use
nozzle without brush for nooks and crannies, wipe clean with towel.
Sinks, Faucets and Drains
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Nozzle with nylon or brass brush, depending on the surface
- Hints & Techniques: Use nozzle to reach into tight areas, use
nozzle brush where needed, rinse or wipe surface.
Counter tops and Cabinet facings
- Volume: Low to Medium
- Tools: Small rectangular brush with towel, nozzle with nozzle brush
- Hints & techniques: Use small rectangular brush directly and
wipe with a towel. Use nozzle with brush on moldings, wipe with
towel. CABINET FACING - pre-steam from 6 inches away and let stand for
a moment, wipe with towel. Repeat if necessary.
Bath and
Shower Areas
Tile
& Grout
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Nozzle, large and small nozzle brushes, small rectangular
brush, extension tubes, towel
- Hints & Techniques: Use nozzle brushes, nozzle, small
rectangular brush for initial deep cleaning. Use small rectangular
brush to maintain.
Porcelain, Chrome Fixtures
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Nozzle, nozzle brushes - nylon or brass depending on surface,
small rectangular brush with towel
- Hints & Techniques: Use small rectangular brush with towel to
treat large areas, large nozzle brush with towel or nylon nozzle brush for
corners, hinges, ledges, and bars. Wipe or rinse away dirt.
Shower Stalls and Doors
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Nozzle, nozzle brushes, small rectangular brush with towel,
extension tubes, large nozzle brush with stainless steel pad.
- Hints & techniques: Use small rectangular brush without towel or
large nozzle brush with stainless steel pad to remove heavy soap scum from
glass panels. Pre-treat area with a mild cleaner if desired.
Rinse tools often. Wipe or rinse away dirt.
Fiberglass
- Volume: Medium
- Tools: Large round nozzle brush, small rectangular brush, extension
tubes, towel
- Hints & Techniques: Use small rectangular brush direct without
towel, or large round nozzle brush for stubborn areas. Rinse or wipe
away dirt. Use extension tube for easy reach.
OTHER
USES
Boat, RV, Dust plants, polish
jewelry, clean tools, yard equipment, sports equipment, outdoor furniture,
decks, unclog drains, defrost freezers,
remove stickers and decals, deodorize fabrics and carpets, remove pet stains and
odors, clean pet kennels, kill fleas and their eggs, remove and kill algae on
deck or other exterior wood surfaces, kill unwanted vegetation, remove and
kill mildew, sanitize nurseries, kill dust mites in bedding.....
